Join us on December 9th to engage in a conversation about the current state of African Nova Scotian employment in Nova scotia, as we dive into a discussion about the current context of the employment sector related to the ANS Community and dissect the opportunity that lays within for employers. Learn how as an employer you can empower African Nova Scotian employees to bring their authentic self to the workplace as well as foster an environment that encourages personal growth, increased productivity, and inclusiveness!  
 


ABOUT OUR PANELISTS:

Bradley Daye,

Bradley Daye was born and raised in Halifax, NS, he is a community leader, coach and member of the African Nova Scotian community with deeply rooted history in NS.

Those roots are what keep him grounded and provide the motivation behind the work he does now. As the Grandson of Delmore Buddy Daye, community development is always top of mind, he is an empathetic leader with a successful background in professional sports having played and coached football at both the university and professional level. He also has a proven track record of taking an idea from incubation to success, with the successful launch and scale of two businesses and a non-profit organization. He volunteers his time as a member on the Board of Directors for United Way Halifax additionally, He continues to give back through youth football in the north end of Halifax where everything started for him. Bradley has 12 years of combined professional coaching and business management experience that being said, everything is guided by the values he lives by, and Bradley lives by Compassion, Community and Love.



Ashley Hill

Ashley Hill is the Founder and Executive Director of The PREP Academy, a community based non-profit that inspires and coaches African Nova Scotian students to plan, prepare and pursue college and university directly after high school. She is passionate about student advancement, education and the development of African Nova Scotian communities. Her goal is to create programs and services that help students access and navigate resources and experiential learning opportunities.
Ashley was the first in her family to receive a university degree. As an African Nova Scotian, she has faced challenges and experienced systemic barriers in her pursuit of obtaining a higher education. It was through her lived experiences that shaped her dedication to student access and success. 
She currently serves on the Advisory Council at the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning and on the board for The Futures Program. She dedicates her time to helping students discover their full potential and gain opportunities to explore their leadership abilities. Her career and desire to help others is inspired by her grandmother, Bernetta.



Treno Morton

Treno Morton is a co-owner and creative director of Fumes Rolling Papers Incorporated. He is a graduate of Queen?s University, with a degree in Geography and Planning, with a certificate in planning, and a minor in Global Development Studies. Treno?s goal is to use his education to help counteract the gentrification he has seen plaguing not only his own community, but countless other black communities across Canada. In addition to his own business, Treno has experience working with and advising local community groups and many non-profit organizations. He currently works as a research  analyst at Inspiring communities.



David Upton

David is a committed social entrepreneur who is passionate about social change and using business as a tool to strengthen communities by helping to build capacity within the social innovation and community-based enterprise ecosystem on a regional, national and international basis.
