Ross Jefferson
President & CEO, Discover Halifax
Ross Jefferson is the President and CEO of Discover Halifax, the regional destination marketing organization responsible for overseeing the growth of the tourism economy in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With over 5.3 million overnight stays annually, tourism in Halifax is $1.3 billion industry with more than 34,000 people employed in over 4,000 businesses. As one of Canada’s leading destinations for leisure visitors, cruise, and national and international conventions, Halifax also represents a major gateway for air traffic travel connecting the Atlantic Provinces to the rest of the world through the Stanfield Halifax International Airport.
Ross has an Executive MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and holds the ICD.D destination from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Ross currently serves as a board director with the Canadian Automobile Association and with the Destination Marketing Association of Canada.
Roger Boutilier
CEO, Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS (NSAR.)
Roger Boutilier is the CEO of the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR). Prior to taking on the role of CEO in 2011, Roger served as NSAR’s Director of Finance. He is a Trustee of the HMCS Sackville, a Past President of the Certified General Accountants Association of Nova Scotia, a past Board Member of the Nova Scotia Nature Trust and is a recipient of the Canadian Real Estate Association's Frank Johns Award, which recognizes excellence in an Association Executive. Roger is also a dedicated volunteer with FEED NOVA SCOTIA. Roger is an adamant supporter of “buy local” and is a huge ambassador for his native province of Nova Scotia. It is his belief that every Canadian should visit Nova Scotia at least once in their lifetime to experience its lobster and golf!
Sylvia Parris-Drummond
CEO, Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute
Sylvia is the CEO of the Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute. Her work in education and the community is rooted in core Africentric Principles. She has a successful history of collaboration with the communities and stakeholders with whom she has worked. Through her extensive public sector involvement, Ms. Parris-Drummond has gained a deep understanding and appreciation for what it takes to conduct policy analysis, oversee publishing projects, and develop and implement education, multicultural and diversity programs. Known for getting things done in a thoughtful, respectful and engaging way, she has been actively involved across a broad range of community initiatives and organizations including the Akoma Family Centre, the Multicultural Association of Nova Scotia, and the Black Business Initiative Community Investment Fund. She has worked with the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia Department of Education, Nova Scotia Department of Justice, the Nova Scotia Community College and the Guysborough District School Board. Ms. Parris-Drummond holds a Masters of Arts in Life Long Learning - Africentricity, a Masters of Education - Curriculum, and a Bachelor of Science, Home Economics / Education.
Shelley Bent James
Acting Executive Director, Office of Immigration
Shelley Bent James joined the Office of Immigration in July 2014 as the Director of Programs and most recently has moved to act as the Executive Director. In her previous role, she was responsible for the delivery of all provincial immigration programs in Nova Scotia including all the program streams under the provincial nominee program, including the entrepreneur streams, settlement programs, and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot. Prior to working for the Office of Immigration, she held various positions with both the federal and provincial governments.
