Countless journeys. One Canada. Located at the Halifax Seaport, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is housed in Canada's last standing immigration terminal. From 1928 to 1971, almost one million immigrants arrived at this former gateway to Canada. During WWII, 368,000 military personnel departed from Pier 21 for service overseas. Today, we collect, preserve and share these stories with visitors from around the world as a national museum, the only one located in Atlantic Canada.

Our core exhibitions focus on the history of Pier 21 as an immigration processing facility and examine the broader story of Canadian immigration history from first contact to present day. Throughout the Museum, oral histories collected from immigrants, immigration personnel and volunteers offer unique first-person insights into the vast history. Along with our exhibitions, special programs and hands-on activities for people of all ages connect visitors with our message. Visitors can also uncover family history with the help of knowledgeable staff at our Scotiabank Family History Centre.

As a unique rental venue with unparalleled views, the Museum also welcomes individuals and business to hold their own events in one of our many beautiful rooms within this national historic site. The Museum's rich history combined with modern amenities make it an ideal setting for special events of all types.
